first bleed
Title: 'First bleed' Bronze 7cm x 18 cm Limited edition: /11 Price: R 9 800
This piece represents the crossing of a threshold. The first bloom of womanhood is a visceral reminder of how our life journeys are tethered to the containers we inhabit. This artwork was created by dipping a live flower, a lily, into sculptor's wax. This was secured in a sculpted bowl, and then put through the process of lost wax casting to create a solid bronze sculpture. |
fertility bowl
Title: 'Fertility bowl'
Bronze 5cm x 12cm Limited edition: /11 Price: R 4 500 A woman’s bleed is a sign of her fertility. Yet these red stains marking our clothes and our sheets have been a source of shame for centuries. They have been used as evidence against us, pointed to as signs of the weakness and impurity of femaleness. The piece ‘Fertility Bowl’ seeks to re-instate the dignity of bleeding, through a re-interpretation of the mythology of menstruation.
