A collaboration between South African artists, Falconer Art Studios create unique sculptural water features. Artists Claire Falconer and Seth Falconer sculpt the original artworks, then work with their team at The Falconer Foundry to transform these sculptures into timeless bronze. As well as bespoke water features, they specialize in boudoir sculptures and maternity sculptures, and their own sculpture series representing their personal artistic journeys.

Lost wax casting is an ancient technique used to create metal sculptures. It originated in Mesopotamia in 3500 BC. The artist sculpts the original form in clay or wax, and this is used for the lost wax process. A rubber mould is first made to create a sacrificial wax replica of the sculpture. This is then dipped in successive layers of ceramic binders and sands to build up a thick ceramic mould capable of withstanding the high temperatures of molten metal. The sacrificial wax is then burnt out, leaving a cavity in the form of the sculpture. Copper is then melted down and mixed with silica and manganese to create molten bronze. This is poured into the ceramic mould. Once cooled, the mould is broken off with hammers and chisels, and details are worked in the bronze using drills and angle grinders. The finished product is coloured with nitrates and sealed.
